I've heard Hebel cracks - is that true?

Hebel is a strong, solid building product, with a similar impact resistance to traditional brick. To prevent or minimise cracking, ensure that you use a recommended acrylic render system, applied by an experienced renderer.

How long has Hebel been around for?

Hebel is a strong building product made from autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC). AAC was developed in Scandinavia over 70 years ago and is now used widely across the world.

CSR Hebel is Australia's only manufacturer of AAC with over 25 years of experience in designing and developing AAC systems for Australian buildings.

Is Hebel the same as Polystyrene cladding?

No, Hebel is building product made from autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) and contains steel mesh, coated with an anti-corrosion protection layer for maximum strength and durability. Hebel boasts great environmental benefits, is a non-combustible product and has high fire resistance, not to mention it reduces noise and is great for keeping your house warm in winter and cool in summer.

How do I care for the external surface of my Hebel home?

Hebel walls should be washed down as a minimum once a year with clean water. This process removes any dirt or other build-up that has gathered on the coating. Hebel recommends that you follow the care and maintenance instructions from your render supplier.

I’ve built my house in Hebel – can I fix items like external lights or speakers to it?

Holes can be drilled into Hebel walls using a masonry drill bit fitted to a standard (not rotary hammer) drill. Once the penetration has been filled with the required cables or the like, the gap around the penetration should be filled with a reputable flexible sealant such as Sikaflex polyurethane sealant.

If I damage my Hebel wall, how do I repair it?

Surface knocks and scratches can be touched up with the same surface coating finish that was applied at construction, like any masonry wall. In the event you are unsure, contact your builder for advice.

If the damage extends beyond the coating system and into the Hebel wall, professional advice should be sought to ensure the damage has not compromised the integrity of the wall.
